ABOUT Electromagnetic Fields

Electromagnetic fields are commonly mentioned in paranormal investigations. It's not first on our list because EMFs change constantly (kind of like a fluid but not) and they're flippin' everywhere. So unless you "do it right" you won't get GOOD results. (You'll get "results," in any case, but how GOOD are those results?)

Wiki page on EMF:

The World Health Organization (WHO) seems to think there is something to EMFs.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has more details than the WHO page.

Don't Be "THAT" Guy

All this is not to say that you should run around your house with an EMF detector. Besides giving skeptics something to ridicule, it's mostly a waste of time. There are lots of good articles about this. Here are a couple.

A Taste of Journals

For the scholarly reader, here is a little taste of the kind of discussion in the methodology forums:

Low Priority

Like we said before, look into the first five debunking methods first. Then if you haven't debunked (it) yet, really think about doing it right. You would probably want a meter that can be securely mounted, with a steady power supply, optimally with data logging. And it would be helpful to have several in a (problematic) room, or even a grid of sensors if you want to get hard core about it.

Recall that having a gadget with a big display screen that says lit up, would be an excellent addition to any video surveillance of the environment.

And you need lots of measurements, including baselines, with date and time, and a detailed walk-through of ANYTHING ELSE is going on NEAR the environment (that might be the cause of the disturbance). Yeah. There's a lot to it. Check debunking items 1-5 first.

In APP's Methodology Panels there is discussion about how to best cover an environment for measuring as many variables and data points as (reasonably) possible. Join us there if you're an expert or if you want to spectate. But we'll report back here as we get solid information.

FEEDBACK

Share your reviews, and knowledge. Don't be shy if you have a quality contribution. (But please be polite and proofread.)

For quick comment about this post, just reply to this thread. To add more in-depth commentary, add a new post to this forum: Go back one page (hit the "BACK" arrow or use the breadcrumbs near the header) so you can see ALL the posts on this topic. Then look for the "NEW TOPIC" button. It has bright purple text.

If you have GOOD INFORMATION, please choose to add a new post rather than a reply here. That way you'll generate comments of your own.

TIPS FOR POLLS: Polls appear on some topics, if the post's author has created one. They're open to ALL registered users. All APP-written polls are set to be ongoing and allow you to change your vote later. Feel free to comment your suggestions for improving any poll, ours or others', just be kind and helpful.

CREATING A POLL: When writing any post (not comment replies) the option for "Poll Creation" is in a tab below the "submit" button. You can always edit the poll later via editing the post itself and navigating back to that tab, but that sort of defeats the purpose if you change it after people have answered, right? To start, try to think through the answers and provide an option for all likely points-of-view. Lastly, the poll will display below the post after it's published. In "preview" mode it shows on top.
